Bits and Pieces

We had our first meeting with our kindergarten buddies this week!  We spent the time asking each other 'get-to-know-you' questions.  Next week we will start reading together!

We continued with the theme of safety this week with a visit to the police station.  Officer Peacock and Officer Pierce showed us all the nooks and crannies of the police station and police cars!

In science we learned the scientific names for some of the body parts of a worm.  Students then observed the worms up close to see if they could identify any of the parts we've been learning.

Our newest science topic was also introduced...OWLS!  We played a game of 20 questions, asking only yes or no questions in an effort to guess the creature we are going to study.  Everyone had very scientific questions such as:

Does it eat meat?
Is it a reptile?
Does it have scales?
Is it an insect?

Then, students shared information they think they already know about owls.  We will go back and review these thoughts at the end of our unit and see if our thinking has changed or grown.

In writers workshop, students have been using the colored revision pens to bring their stories to life by adding movement and dialogue.  These stories are AMAZING!
