Week 3!

We started the week with a whole school community meeting!  Every student in the school (and teachers) participated in a 2 minute breathing buddy exercise.  It was an amazing thing to witness!

Back in the classroom, we started our formal word study curriculum.  We've been practicing tapping out sounds on our fingers to spell and read words.

In readers workshop we've spent the week practicing how to fill out text-to-self connection book sheets on the books we read.  This is the first step in our readers workshop model.

In math, students have been creating number stories to solve.  They also explored some more math tools!

Mr. Street from the transfer station joined us on Tuesday to teach us more about recycling in Yarmouth.

On Wednesday, we traveled to the YES garden to see nature in all its harvestable glory.  Students harvested sunflower seeds and fed them to the chickens, smelled lots of different herbs, and taste-tested kale!  This trip was is a timely segue into the vermicomposting unit that will start next week.

Keep an eye out for the super moon and lunar eclipse this Sunday!
