Update From Room 108

Last week students used pattern blocks to create a symmetrical design.  They then recreated that design on paper and turned it into feathers for their Thanksgiving turkeys!

In math we've been measuring, measuring, measuring this week!  We've used paperclips, cubes, base ten blocks, pencils, and everything in between to measure and compare lengths of objects.  We've all been wandering the room looking for just the right object to measure while reciting our measuring mantra: No gaps, no overlaps!

There has been quite the buzz during writers workshop this week.  Students have been working on hooking their readers and using exciting tag words to show, not tell, characters' feelings.  Next week we will start publishing our favorite realistic fiction stories for a celebration on the 18th.

In science we've started studying the sun, Earth, and the rest of the solar system in anticipation of the winter solstice and all the celebrations of light that happen this month!
