Snapshots from our week

We dissected barn owl pellets this week!  Students matched the skeletal remains from the pellets to  diagrams with skeletal systems of barn owl prey to determine what their owls ate for dinner.

The Chewonki owls visited us on Friday!  Here are some photos of the first graders learning more about Athena (saw whet owl), Varia (barred owl), and Sparky (great horned owl)! Varia even regurgitated an owl pellet before our very eyes!

We wrapped up our small moments writing unit this week.  On Friday we celebrated by sharing our published stories with Mrs. Lincoln's class.

We also wrapped up unit 2 of Everyday Math this week.  Unit 3 will focus on:
-part/part/total diagrams
-writing number models for number stories
-using number grids and number lines to find unknown numbers in a number model and solve number stories
-subtraction
-frames-and-arrows problems

Happy halloween from all the owls in room 108!
