Snapshots

We had two special visitors this week!  On Wednesday Author Lynn Plourde made a special visit to Rowe School.  We were lucky enough to hear (and watch!) her read one of her published books to us!  She also taught us some tricks for writing a great story!

On St. Patrick's Day there was evidence of a second special visitor...

In math we've been studying the attributes of different polygons.  Students even designed their own polygons using some rules they created together:

-No gaps
-No overlaps
-All straight sides
-Atleast 3 sides
-No round edges
-Only closed shapes

In readers workshop we've been working on strategies to enhance fluency and comprehension.
In science students have been working together to create runway systems that allow a sphere (marble) to travel from one end to the other.  Students spent a couple of days designing one large system by connecting all of their runways together.  There was a great display of teamwork and patience as they worked out the kinks!

One of our students wrote a persuasive letter to our governor a few weeks ago asking for legislation to protect wild animals.  This week he got a great response letter from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and some really great loot, too!
